Great Orme Tramway Llandudno

A funicular railway

The upper section of the Great Orme Tramway in Llandudo, north Wales, includes an unsignaled level crossing where the line crosses St Trudno's Road.

This film shows this, plus the nearby crossing point where two trams pass and Half Way station, which is also the winding house.

We also see cables whirring and in the background the hanging cable car / gondola system which in the American dialect is known as an 'aerial tram'.

The Great Orme tramway is actually a funicular railway and not a cable car as in San Francisco. It comprises of upper and a lower sections which meet at Half Way station, where pasengers must change trains to complete their journeys.
